What is it exactly?
The profile of the collection – which was established in 1985 – was remarkably changed after the democratic transition. From that point on, besides from complying the library functions, the main objective of the collection has been the documentation and research of 20th century and contemporary history of Central and South-East Europe, the history and present of Hungarian transborder minorities. It collects and elaborates documents and information sources (specialized books, papers of bequests, journals, etc.) concerning social theory, politics, history of ideas (history of receptions), provides their public access and publication.
The mission of the collection is dual: on the one hand to provide a background in the University of Szeged for the education and academic research of history of ideas, regions and minorities, on the other hand to maintain the background database and to operate independent programmes for researchers and publishers.
Where can I find it?
The public part of the collection can be found on the 1st floor, in the so-called „sinus” part. These documents can be used during the whole opening hours of the library. Parts of the holdings which are in the stack rooms can only be used with the help of a librarian: on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 12 a.m., the staff of the Special Collection in History of Minorities and Regions can assist, while between 12 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., librarians in the reading room can give a hand. After 4:30 p.m. and on weekends these kinds of requests cannot be served.

How can I use it?
A major part of the Collection is available for local reading only, while specialized books with special topics can be freely borrowed. All the items, including loan stock are included in the catalog of the library. The volumes on the open access shelves are ordered by their accession numbers; maps of the shelves help visitors to find the disciplines they look for.
Documents in the stack rooms are only for local use and kept in files. For their use the storage request function of the catalog of the Library cannot be applied; on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 12 a.m. – during the opening hours of the collection – the help of the staff of the Special Collection in History of Minorities and Regions is needed by all means. On weekdays between 12 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. these kind of requests can be performed by completing a red labelled request form and delivering it to the librarian present in the reading room.
