Expired Open Access quotas

We inform our authors that by September-October 2024, our prepaid Open Access quotas at Elsevier, Wiley and Springer Open (Springer Open, BMC) will be exhausted.

Publications in hybrid (essentially subscription-based) journals accepted by Elsevier and Wiley between September and December can only be made Open Access up to the remaining quota. Once the Open Access quotas are exhausted, publications that have previously been accepted for publication in hybrid journals must also be published closed access.

The University can only cover the Article Processing Charges (APC) for publications accepted in Gold Open Access journals at Elsevier, Wiley, and the Springer Open division, if an application was submitted and accepted before the 31th of August. After the publisher’s OA quota is exhausted, from September onwards, the University can only support publications in fully Open Access (Gold Open Access) journals of the abovementioned publishers if they meet a minimum ranking of Q2 in the Scimago Journal Rank (SJR) and Journal Citation Reports (JCR).

(For journals with a long review periods, it may be possible to rely again on the publishers’ Open Access quotas reopening in 2025, as most publishers will only deduct the APC from our account after acceptance.)

We kindly ask our authors to contact our colleagues at oa@ek.szte.hu before submitting manuscripts and requesting Open Access at the publishers!

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
