ORCID

Author Identifier

What is its purpose?

The purpose of the ORCID author identifier is to properly link the researcher/author and their publications. It eliminates problems caused by various name forms, common names, name changes, or changes in affiliation. Therefore, the scientific output and impact of the researchers’ can be precisely traced since the publication will be directly linked to its author. Many publishers now do not accept manuscripts without an ORCID identifier. (An example of this.)

How can you request one?

You can easily request an ORCID identifier free of charge through registering here: https://orcid.org/register

I have encountered several types of author identifiers. Which one is recommended to use?

ORCID ID is internationally recognized and widely accepted as the standard author identifier. It is advisable to use this identifier.

In Web of Science, you can request a Researcher ID, and Scopus automatically generates an identifier for each author. Both can be linked to the ORCID ID. MTMT also offers this option.
